Launch of the 7th Oauzguite Carpet Festival in Tazenakht

Tazenakht (Ouarzazate Province) - The seventh edition of the Oauzguite Carpet Festival kicked off today, Wednesday, in Tazenakht, Ouarzazate province, with participation from 150 exhibitors, 80% of whom are women.

 

The opening ceremony of this edition, held under the theme "The Oauzguite Carpet Between Tourist Valorization and Socio-Economic Empowerment of Women Weavers," was attended by Minister of Tourism, Traditional Industry, Social and Solidarity Economy Fatima-Zahra Ammor; Secretary of State for Traditional Industry and Social and Solidarity Economy Lahcen Sadiki; Director of the National Agency for the Development of Oasis and Argan Tree Areas Latifa Yaakoubi; Governor of Ouarzazate Province Abdellah Jahid; President of Draa-Tafilalet Regional Council Hro Abrou; as well as elected officials and representatives of professional bodies and civil society.

The economic and cultural event began with a colorful showcase highlighting various stages of carpet production from wool collection and washing to weaving.

Spanning 3,000 square meters, the exhibition includes a dedicated space for carpet display and marketing, along with an institutional area and cultural hub.

Organized by the Chamber of Traditional Industry of Draa-Tafilalet region and Ouarzazate Province, this cultural and economic event celebrates this authentic cultural heritage and highlights the role of women weavers in local economic development.

According to organizers, the Oauzguite Carpet Festival - held in partnership with Tazenakht Municipal Council and "Ouarzazate Events" association - aims to promote tourism of Oauzguite carpets through exhibitions and activities showcasing this artistic masterpiece's beauty while educating visitors about its history and significance.

The festival also seeks socio-economic empowerment of women weavers by providing a marketing platform for their products and enhancing their production and marketing capacities.

Another objective is cultural heritage preservation through workshops and seminars on Oauzguite carpet production, facilitating knowledge exchange among weavers, stakeholders and supervisory institutions.

This edition is supported by Dar Al Sanie Foundation, Ouarzazate Provincial Council, and the National Agency for the Development of Oasis and Argan Tree Areas.
